FOODCOOLTOUR Conference in Osijek Brings Together Leading Food Safety Experts
With more than 300 participants, 12 panels, and 50 renowned experts, the FOODCOOLTOUR Conference in Osijek highlighted just how central nutrition, food safety, and sustainability are to today’s society.
The conference was officially opened by the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, who emphasised that food production is a matter of national security and a strategic resource for the country. The event gathered leading European and Croatian experts, representatives of institutions, academia, and the food industry.
Key topics included the geopolitical impact on food security, regulation of novel foods and dietary supplements, greenwashing, deforestation, reducing food waste, the effects of climate change, nutrition safety for top athletes, fake news and misinformation about food, the role of digital media in shaping dietary habits, and the influence of advertising and packaging design on the food choices of children and young people.
The conference was organised by the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food (HAPIH), the City of Osijek, and DD Produkcija, with the support of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Commission (EC), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, and Osijek-Baranja County.
